Investigating the Accident
Because of actions by Universal/MCA Television
and poor job performance or lack of any job performance by those responsible for
investigating the accident our son's death was quickly written off and everyone continued
on as if nothing had ever happened. We felt it was our job as parents to investigate the
causes for Ken's death. We contacted the following agencies and organizations:
California Highway Patrol
California division of OSHA
Screen Actors Guild
Bureau of Land Management
San Bernardino District Attorney's Office
Willie's On/Off Road Vehicles
Universal/MCA Television
When we questioned anything people either didn't respond, or they became very defensive
or uncooperative. On rare occasions we did find people with feelings and compassion.
However, most agencies whose job it was to look carefully into the accident did nothing or
the absolute minimum required so they could get on to the next job. As you will see in the
rest of this web site time after time, agency after agency failed to do the job we assumed
they would do. Our incredibly talented and wonderful son paid with his life for an
accident that could have easily been prevented and then the system that is suppose to hold
accountable those who were responsible for the accident simply did not do their job. Maybe
this web page will make a difference. Maybe the next actor or actress will insist that
safety be important. Maybe next time those responsible for providing safe work conditions
will pay closer attention. Maybe those responsible for investigating safety violations by
the movie industry will do their job instead of wasting time. Hopefully Ken's story will
make a difference. We knew we had to try, for us and for Ken who gave his life pursuing
his dream.
